About Vida Goldstein
Vida Goldstein was an Australian feminist, suffragist and social reformer who became the first woman in the British Empire to stand for election to a national parliament, contesting a Senate seat as an independent in 1903. She edited the feminist journals The Woman’s Sphere and Woman Voter while campaigning for women’s suffrage, equal pay and broader social reform. During the First World War, she became a prominent pacifist and helped form the Women’s Peace Army.
