Sylvester of Antioch

Sylvester of Antioch was the Orthodox Patriarch of Antioch and All the East from 1724 to 1766, leading the church during the schism that produced the Melkite Greek Catholic Church. A native of Cyprus, he supported Arabic Christian publishing by arranging the printing of liturgical books in Moldavia, Wallachia, and Beirut, including the establishment of an Arabic press. He was also an accomplished icon painter whose works survive in churches across Syria and Lebanon.
