P. Ramlee

P. Ramlee was a Malaysian singer, actor, songwriter and filmmaker who became one of the defining figures of the golden age of Malay cinema. After joining Shaw Brothers’ Malay Film Productions in Singapore, he expanded from playback singing into acting, composing and directing, beginning with *Penarek Beca* (1955). His body of work—including dozens of films and roughly 250 songs—continues to shape the cultural memory of Malaysia and Singapore.
