Narayan Vaman Tilak

Narayan Vaman Tilak (1861–1919) was a Marathi poet and hymnwriter from Maharashtra who became a Christian convert in 1895. His hundreds of poems and devotional hymns adapted Marathi literary and musical forms for Christian worship, helping articulate an Indian Christian identity in the vernacular. He later worked as a preacher and teacher and began composing an unfinished verse life of Christ, *Christayan*.
