Manley Elisha West

Manley Elisha West was a Jamaican pharmacologist whose career at the University of the West Indies advanced research into medicinal uses of cannabis. He and ophthalmologist Albert Lockhart developed Canasol, a cannabis-derived treatment for glaucoma, and West became the first Jamaican and West Indian appointed Professor of Pharmacology at UWI. His work earned national recognition, including Jamaica’s Order of Merit.
