About Kamau Brathwaite
Kamau Brathwaite was a Barbadian poet, historian, and cultural theorist whose writing explored Caribbean history, African diasporic identity, and the enduring effects of colonialism. His landmark trilogy The Arrivants—Rights of Passage, Masks, and Islands—helped establish his reputation through inventive rhythms, typography, and the use of Caribbean “nation language.” He also co-founded the Caribbean Artists Movement and held academic posts at the University of the West Indies and New York University.
