John Bede Polding

John Bede Polding was an English Benedictine monk who became the first Catholic bishop in Australia and the first Archbishop of Sydney. After arriving in 1835, he organized the scattered Catholic community, expanding its network of priests, schools, churches, and religious institutions. His long episcopate helped establish the foundations of the Catholic Church across colonial Australia.
