Johann Gottfried Herder

Johann Gottfried Herder was a German philosopher, theologian, poet, and literary thinker whose work helped shape modern linguistics, literary studies, and the philosophy of history. His writings on language, folk poetry, and cultural development—especially *Ideas for the Philosophy of the History of Mankind*—influenced historicism and German Romanticism. He also held senior ecclesiastical and educational posts in Bückeburg and Weimar, where he spent much of his later career.
