Johann Adam Schall von Bell

Johann Adam Schall von Bell was a German Jesuit astronomer and missionary who spent most of his career in China, where he was known as Tang Ruowang. He helped reform the Chinese calendar after 1630 and later directed the imperial astronomical office in Beijing. His scientific expertise made him an influential adviser at the Qing court, particularly during the reign of the Shunzhi Emperor.
