Jiří Šlitr

Jiří Šlitr was a Czech composer, pianist, singer, actor and visual artist whose work helped define the cultural impact of Prague’s Semafor theatre. In 1959, he co-founded Semafor with Jiří Suchý and Ferdinand Havlík, developing a distinctive blend of popular song, theatrical performance and musical wit. He also performed internationally with Laterna magika, including at the 1958 Brussels World’s Fair, while continuing to exhibit and illustrate his visual art.
