Jean-Louis Barrault

Jean-Louis Barrault was a French actor, mime artist, and theatre director whose training with Charles Dullin and Étienne Decroux shaped his physically expressive style. After performing and directing at the Comédie-Française, he founded the Compagnie Renaud-Barrault with Madeleine Renaud in 1946. He also directed major French theatres and gained international recognition for his performance as the mime Baptiste in Marcel Carné’s *Les Enfants du paradis*.
