Ghada Amer

Ghada Amer is an Egyptian-born contemporary artist whose practice spans painting, sculpture, ceramics, works on paper, and mixed-media installations. Best known for combining embroidery with painting, she uses traditionally feminized craft techniques to challenge the male-dominated history of art and explore gender, sexuality, and cultural identity. Born in Cairo in 1963, Amer studied at Villa Arson in Nice and continues to work between New York and Paris.
