About Frederick Maynard
Charles Frederick “Fred” Maynard was an Aboriginal Australian activist and unionist who campaigned for Indigenous rights in New South Wales. In 1924, he helped establish the Australian Aboriginal Progressive Association, which advocated land rights, citizenship, cultural identity, and protection from the forced removal of Aboriginal children. Maynard’s organizing helped lay important foundations for later Aboriginal political activism in Australia.
