Anton Wilhelm Amo

Anton Wilhelm Amo was a Ghanaian-born philosopher who studied and taught at the German universities of Halle, Wittenberg, and Jena. His 1738 treatise, *Tractatus de arte sobrie et accurate philosophandi*, developed a broad account of philosophy and its practical role in cultivating wisdom. Amo is widely recognized as an early Afro-German academic whose career challenged the racial boundaries of eighteenth-century European intellectual life.
